6 Vegan toast topping ideas. Easy to make, filling & delicious
I might have a facial expression like I’m pondering life’s biggest questions, or contemplating my life’s choices. The truth is that eight out of the ten times, I’m simply thinking of food. What am I going to eat today? How would this, in combination with that, taste? Simply remembering what something tasted like is also a hobby of mine. So, if you ever see me with a serious expression, know that food is on my mind.
My husband is completely the opposite of me. To him, food is simply fuel (the horror, I know). We have this game we play where we ask each other the most random questions at the most random times, food being the star of the show. We were playing the other day – in Caribbean terms, the other day could mean three days ago, or 5 years ago – and one of the questions was if he had to choose something to eat every day, what would it be? His answer was peanut butter toast. Needless to say, my answer was not that simple. I mean, he could eat a PB sandwich every day and not get tired. Me? I need variation- a lot of it.
6 Vegan toast topping ideas. Easy to make, filling & delicious
That’s how this blog got its roots. If you are like me – a little extra when it comes to food – you need variation, colors, and an explosion of taste that will make you a little wobbly on the knees. I’m starting with simple ideas before you see how extra I can get. They say don’t show all the crazy the first time right? I hope these 6 toast toppings ideas will inspire you and create a safe space where you understand that loving food is okay. Yes, you can be healthy and love food at the same time but that’s a subject for another time. For now, let the show begin.
Vegan toast topping idea #1. Hummus & tomatoes.

Ah, good old hummus. Hummus is a Middle Eastern dip made from mashed chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, and garlic. I’m on a quest to make my own because fresh is always better. (Recipe soon on your screens). Hummus added on top of your favorite type of bread is always a good option. Now let’s add some flavor complexity and colors.
- As already said, choose your favorite bread and top with a chunk of hummus. Do not be shy!
- Add sweet, colorful cherry tomatoes. The sweeter, the better. This will create a beautiful contrast with the already savory hummus
- Add fresh oregano leaves. Try not to skip this part. The oregano adds a Mediterranean touch that goes well with the whole ensemble
- Drizzle good quality olive oil. I can’t stress this enough. A good quality olive oil can make or break any dish so make sure to choose wisely. Save your coins and purchase a good one – it will be worth it.
- Add salt and pepper to taste
- Enjoy 1 or 4. As long as you are satisfied without having any sick feeling from overeating
Vegan toast topping idea #2. Almond butter & Oreo.

We are going for sweet now with almond butter and Oreo toast topping idea.
- Again, choose your favorite bread. Ditch the toaster and use a skillet or pan. Toasting will alter the flavor and make it firmer so that it is easier to spread the butter
- Choose your favorite almond butter brand. Peanut butter, or any other butter, is also an option. Crunch as many Oreos as your heart desires and add on top
Vegan toast topping idea #3. Passion fruit & cream cheese.

To describe the flavor of this one is tricky. It’s a harmonious balance between tangy, savory, and sweet that will make you do a happy dance.
- Choose your favorite bread and toast by using a pan or skillet
- Spread (vegan) cream cheese. My favorite brand so far is Violife.
- Add passion fruit on top
- Drizzle agave syrup and enjoy!
- Optional: Try adding (roasted) coconut flakes on top. You’re welcome
Vegan toast topping idea #4. Peanut butter, banana & chocolate.

Okay, this one is a classic one and I simply can’t allow myself not to mention it.
- Choose your favorite bread and toast by using a pan or skillet
- Spread your favorite brand of peanut butter. Peanut butter with no additives, simply peanuts & salt, is the best option
- Slice some bananas and add on top
- Here comes the best part. Chocolate. Add as many as your heart desires. I prefer as dark as possible – 70% and up. The bitterness of the dark chocolate pairs up quite well with all the other ingredients
- Drizzle agave syrup on top
- Here comes the secret ingredient. Coarse salt! By adding coarse salt you will enhance the flavor of the dark chocolate This will add some depth and intensity to the whole dish
Vegan toast topping idea #5. Red cabbage, feta & apple.

Red cabbage, feta & apple is one of my favorites. If you’re not used to eating raw red cabbage, then try to slice it as thin as humanly possible. The thinner it is, the less overpowering it will be.
- As always, choose your favorite bread and toast using a pan or skillet
- Slice apples as thin as possible
- Add crumbled (vegan) feta. My favorite brand is Violife. They seriously hit it out of the park with this one
- Add red cabbage
- Top with agave syrup
- Salt & pepper is optional. Not everyone likes the apple & salt combination. If you don’t mind, then go for it
Vegan toast topping idea #6. Cream cheese, avocado & tomatoes.

We can’t say toast without mentioning avocado. That is simply how it is. This combination is more known, I know, but it’s still too delicious not to mention. As a toast topping, avocado is a must!
- Choose your favorite bread and toast by using a pan or skillet
- Spread with (vegan) cream cheese. Violife did a great job with this one as well
- Top with sliced avocado and colorful cherry tomatoes
- Use good quality olive oil to drizzle on top
- Add salt, pepper, and fresh oregano leaves
