Recipe for success. Tips & tricks for the best orange cake texture

Let’s talk about some tips and tricks to make this cake even better.  Here are four tips for achieving the best cake texture:

  1. Use room temperature ingredients: Using room temperature ingredients allows it to blend together more easily, creating a smoother texture. Room temperature ingredients also help the batter to rise more evenly, resulting in a lighter and fluffier cake.
  2. Don’t overmix: Overmixing the batter can cause the gluten in the flour to develop too much, resulting in a tough and dense cake. Mix the batter until the ingredients are just combined and no lumps remain.
  3. Measure ingredients accurately: Baking is a science, and precise measurements are crucial to achieving the best texture. Use a kitchen scale or measuring cups and spoons to ensure you’re adding the right amount of each ingredient.
  4. Bake at the right temperature: Baking at too high a temperature can cause the cake to cook too quickly on the outside and remain undercooked in the middle. On the other hand, baking at too low a temperature can result in a cake that is dense and heavy. Follow our instructions below for baking temperature and time to ensure the best texture.

Topping ideas

The good thing about oranges is that they pretty much go along with everything! We chose a simple and classic orange frosting. We mixed together powdered sugar, vegan butter, orange juice, and orange zest until smooth and we topped it over the cooled cake. This will add a sweet and tangy flavor to each bite of the cake. You can also add the following toppings instead:

  1. Vegan cream cheese frosting: This tangy and sweet frosting pairs perfectly with the citrus flavor of an orange cake. To make it, simply beat together vegan cream cheese, vegan butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Candied orange slices: For a decorative and flavorful topping, try candied orange slices. To make them, simmer thinly sliced oranges in a sugar syrup until they are tender and translucent. Then, let them cool and arrange them on top of the cake.
  3. Toasted Almonds: Toasted almonds add a crunchy texture and nutty flavor that complements the orange cake.
  4. Fresh Berries: Adding fresh berries such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries on top of the cake creates a colorful contrast and adds freshness to the dish.
